XYZ engages youth and educators in community service-learning projects in classrooms and after-school clubs. Youth-led teams work to design, explore, and experience service projects that meet community needs, develop leadership skills, build character, enhance academic skills, and advance youth development.

Tiveeda Stovall
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/FOUNDER
Tiveeda Stovall is the Executive Director and Founder of eXcel Youth Zone (XYZ), a California statewide nonprofit which engages K-12 youth in service-learning opportunities. Ms. Stovall is a state Certified Trainer of Service-Learning through the California Department of Education and has served as an adjunct professor of Sociology/Psychology. Tiveeda Stovall received her Master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. She has had over 20 years of social work and counseling experience with children, adolescents and families in community, educational and medical settings. She has consulted for schools, public health departments, medical professionals and community organizations on psycho-social issues of youth and families. Ms. Stovall was the recipient of the 2007 Congresswoman Susan Davis Award for an Adult Actively Engaging Students in Service. Ms. Stovall is a past recipient for the Youth Award from Colorado Women for Political Action. Tiveeda currently sits on the Advisory Board for the Fredrick Douglass Family Foundation and is an Ambassador for the national BOOST Conference for Out-Of-School Time activities.

Bryce Binderup
BOARD MEMBER
Bryce joined the Excel Youth Zone board of directors in late 2010. A native of California, he has donated much of his time as an organizer, coach and referee in various youth basketball leagues throughout California and Arizona. Bryce graduated with honors from Arizona State University with a degree in Business and Geography. He began his professional career in accounting for a chain of organic markets in London, England. Since 2005 Bryce has lived and worked in California in the insurance and financial services industry. As treasurer Bryce’s goal is to expand Excel Youth Zone’s service learning projects by spearheading several fundraising endeavors, as well as providing proper oversight and allocation of valuable organizational resources.
Michael Figueroa
BOARD MEMBER
Michael Figueroa began his career directing state and federal afterschool programs. Since then, he has been working with service-learning and AmeriCorps programs and initiatives. He is a certified service-learning trainer and endorsed by the Caliornia School-Age Consortium as a Trainer or Trainers. With this experience, he has helped organize numerous service-learning projects throughout Kern County, garnering thousands of youth and adult volunteers. Currently, he works closely with local teachers, encouraging them to use service-learning as an instructional strategy.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Economics and Latin American Studies. He is pursuing a teaching credential from California State University, Bakersfield. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, mentoring his two high school mentees, and sampling Latin American and Asian cuisine.
Francine Redada
BOARD MEMBER
Francine Redada is currently a service-learning and youth programming consultant in Los Angeles. Originally from Daly City in Northern California, Francine received her B.A. in Asian American Studies at UC Irvine.
Francine’s first experiences with service learning and community-based research began during her year long tenure as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the Ethnic Studies Department at San Francisco State University. As the Program Coordinator for the Raza Studies Community Service Learning Program (RSCSL), she helped bridge service learning projects between the undergraduate students of a Raza Studies class and community based organizations (CBOs) within the Mission District of San Francisco.
Similarly, as a graduate student instructor and field coordinator at the UCLA Center for Experiential Education and Service Learning (CEESL), Francine also initiated contact and established service learning projects with CBOs in downtown Los Angeles and undergraduate students. During her time at SFSU and UCLA, Francine effectively organized, coordinated and supervised the students and community partners for a positive and fruitful service learning partnership.
As a past Programs Coordinator for the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation’s (CECF) Educating the Heart School Program in Los Angeles, Francine was responsible for training and providing technical assistance to support the service-learning graduation requirement in 10 Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) high schools. She worked closely with the teachers in implementing, administrating and maintaining high quality service learning curriculum/projects in reflecting the life and values of Cesar E. Chavez.
Most recently, Francine was the interim Program and Community/Leadership Mentoring Coordinator at the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) Puente Project Program. Working collaboratively with site team members and administrators at 14 high schools within 5 districts in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, she established, maintained and organized recruitment procedures, mentoring component, as well as the development of community based projects during the school year.
In addition to being a Boardmember for Excel Youth Zone, Francine is also a Boardmember and VP of Programs for the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (CHSSC), Chapter Secretary for the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) – Los Angeles Chapter, and a member of the Los Angeles Service-Learning Partnership – Region 11. She became a certified service-learning trainer for the state of California in 2009.
